That is a nice Cutaway, the pics you took are bettter than excellent. Do you mind giving up the details on how you are doing this? Type of camera? Are you using a tent or box?

Hi Steve,

I use quite a budget setup for this.

The basis is a portable light tent, flanked by 2 halogen building lights and an addtional light source at the top.

The camera is mounted on a tripod. I use a Fujifilm FinePix 2000HD. This is basically a straightforward camera which lets you use some features of the more professional cameras at a fraction of the cost. I use the 'Custom' setting of the camera, allowing me to control the shutter speed (low) and the light balance (which I set to 'incandescant', this gets rid of the yellowish discoloration you normally have). It also allows me to set the white balance if needed.

The gun itself is balanced nose down on a wooden base with a piece of 7mm round wood. This allows the gun to 'float' in the air, avoiding drop shadows.

I rotate the camera on the tripod 90 degrees to get as much surface area as possible.

I think that the entire, mobile, setup cost my about $300 - $400 in total, that includes the camera.

Here are some examples of the rigs I use to photograph the guns and the holsters.

The holster mount has a small piece of plastic (electrical) tube that balances horizontally on the vertical rod. That piece of plastic tube gets fed through the holster loops.

That is a very desirable HsC cutaway. I would love to have one, just one, but probably can't afford it but I can enjoy the eye candy. And thanks for showing your photography setup. Very nice.
