1918 erfurt in 7.65

All........ here's another head scratcher...... A 1918 Erfurt with full military proofs, even the barrel. But it's in 7.65. After Erfurt ceased production in 1918, that was supposed to be the end of thier proofing also. When did this military proofed 7.65 bbl get installed ? If it had been issued to the police after the war, police pistols were in 9mm also. This pistol has FULL military proofs, as it should by ALL it's other WW1 characteristics except the sear safety. No PTV or commercial proofs, just straight military proofs. I've tried to explore all options but nothing fits. I showed it to Wayne Warren, an old time police Luger collector from Houston, and he's stumped also. Take time to try to think it out............

God bless...............

The land-to-land marking on the barrel (8,83) shows that the barrel was made as a 9mm barrel, and that the land-to-land distance was 8.83 mm.

So the only explanation is that the barrel was sleeved to .30 luger somewhere between 1918 and the time you purchased it.

Vlim....... I guess that's what happened........ but I inspected the muzzle of the barrel closely with a glass and cannot tell...... and it's dented and rusted also. I will accept that.......... Thanks so much oh learned scholar !

God bless.........
