Stuck spring plunger on the sear bar

Picked up a 1917 Erfurt shooter at the local gun show yesterday (how'd I do for $500?) but upon taking it to the range this morning I've discover it has some issues. It will load and fire the initial round without issue, loads the next round from the mag but will not ****.

Im new to lugers, but after a bit of research on the forum it appears the spring plunger on the sear bar is stuck in the downward position. Is this the cause my cocking problem? If so, how would you suggest fixing it?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

First, I'd try to determine if the spring is stuck, or broken. Try soaking the whole sear bar in Kroil.

There is a small pin that holds that plunger in, but I've never removed one.

It was stuck, gave it a good cleaning and lube and it worked itself out. Return trip to the range and it went through 50 rounds without incident. Looks like I got lucky on this one...

Looks like you got a good deal. Also clean inside the firing pin, inside the breech, and under the extractor. surprising amount of dirt collects in those places.

... ...$500 for an Erfurt is more than luck...It's divine intervention...

I had the same problem on a Erfurt 1914 artillery model. Tried soaking but no luck. Got a large magnet and it pulled the plunger right out. The small pin that holds the plunger and spring in place can be removed with a paper clip that has been straightened out.

Sometimes when I dont have the proper punch I will make one out of a push pin with the sharp end cut off with diagonal cutters. For really stubborn small pins soak in kroil for a couple of days, then put in a small zip lock and put in the freezer for a day then take out and try the pin again, usually comes out.
