Off to Afghanistan
 

Just a note to say that my son John left yesterday for a 1 year deployment (his 3rd) with the Army's 1st Cavalry. :thumbup: Please remember him in your thoughts and prayers.

I personally feel that no one should have to do more than 2 or 3 deployments...


I of course support hum fully, my son is home from R&R and is in Afghan right now, his 1st to there, but his 3rd.

Tell him we are proud of him and post his address once he gets in-country.

As Ed said, we are proud of him and his service.

ED, with regard to your comment about limiting deployments. I agree in principle, but as long as we have an all-volunteer force, I am afraid that any limit on combat deployments will be a high one.

There was a medal of honor award last week (to an Army Ranger), one of the two that were not posthumously awarded. The soldier lost his hand disposing of an enemy grenade that threatened his unit...even though he had already been wounded through both legs. The article said that he had served TWO tours to Iraq, and SIX tours in Afghanistan!

A professional soldier, who continues to serve his Ranger unit with a prosthetic hand... chokes me up just to know we have men like that defending freedom.

My son is in a relatively safe area and on-post job but you never know when he might be in harms way. He was a CH-47 Chinook helicopter crew chief and flight engineer in Bravo Company but recently moved to Delta Company as the new TI (technical inspector) so he probably won't be flying missions unless they get in a real bind. In his new job, he can clear or ground any aircraft for flight duty. He can get email at

My son just got back from his fourth deployment. Two of his buddies are still over there and will return shortly. Our thoughts and prayers are already with your son. Thanks for the APO, we'll send a box, old habits are hard to break. God bless all our men and women, proud of each and every one.

I sold my 65 and 66 mustangs. Miss them, but with moving around, it was too much. My 2006 GT Mustang fills the role, almost as well.
