Model 1869 Werder
4 Attachment(s)
Just picked up a model 1869 Werder today and was wondering if anyone could help me with the unit ID. As you can see on the photo it is marked 3.A.6.2 and on the but plate 3 AR. 6 FB. any help would be appreciated.

First marking I would think is (Bavarian) Feld-artillerie-Regiment 3, Batterie 6, Waffe 2. The second may actually be 3.AR.6.E.B. which I would think is (Bavarian) Feld-artillerie-Regiment 6, Ersatz Batallion.

Just for consideration, it seems that it may be a battallion staff weapon since it would be a bit of a jump from regiment all the way down to a battery weapon. So perhaps the first marking is (Bavarian) Feld-artillerie-Regiment 3, Batallion 6, Waffe 2. I agree that the second marking probably has an "E" rather than "F", therefore the second may actually be 3.AR.6.E.B. which I would think is (Bavarian) Feld-artillerie-Regiment 3, Ersatz Batallion 6. This is just a WAG but would seem to give some consistency between markings. I am out of my league on marking so I may be all wet.
Beautiful weapon by the way. A real prize. |
Thanks guys, I had thought it was an artillery unit but the 6 EB on the but plate through me. I had spoken to a friend who said that The Bavarians were the first German units to use brass ammo. He had also said that only a couple thousand were bought for the military.

I think it is 6. Ersatz Batterie.
Field Artillery regiments had normally 2 Abteilungen (about detachments) with 4 Batterien.......... Sorry for my poor English. |
