rear toggle axel pin number does not match
 

Just learned that the rear toggle axel pin has a different number than the rest of my 1939 42 code Luger. Will such a small part have an impact on the value of the pistol?

I would think "yes" as this part should be matching. How much of an impact would depend on how much the buyer otherwise wants the pistol.

Maybe 5%,that is all.

I think the loss of value willl very from very little to a large number. The finer the pistol, the more the loss will be. For example, a 99% Luger with matching magazine would lose at least 20% of its value. However, a 90% percent Luger with non-matching magazine might only lose 10% of value. Each pistol has to be evaluated individually. You can't apply an all-inclusive formula to determination of value.

George has a 1939 Code 42 .I maintain no more than 5 % in value loss even if 99%.

Bob, no offense but I disagree with you.

Would you tell someone that you'd take 5% off of a 1939 42 if it arrived at your house and it did not have a matching toggle pin?

I personally am not that bothered by it, but had some trouble selling one 3 or 4 years ago that had written provenance of it being a Normandy luger, all because its toggle pin was wrong. I wish I still owned that luger :)

I agree with Aaron's comment, that the more desirable the gun is, the more it matters. But I personally would not turn down a gun that was 'incorrect". That part, firing pins, grips, I give a bit more leeway (not altogether mind you, if only one issue)

Had the seller advertised it as "all parts matching"?

A mismatched toggle axle pin on a 1939 Code 42 may only depreciate the value of the gun 5% if you are negotiating the sale knowing that it is a mismatch, but if you were misled when you bought the gun before having it to examine, I think that's a whole different issue.

Ed. Yes, if I bought a 1939 Code 42 advertised as all matching and then found that the axle pin was not correctly numbered I would expect a 5% adjustment for that defect alone.
