1920 Commercial 7.65 mm
I've inherited a Luger from my Dad, 1920 Commercial 7.65 parabelllum. I've purchased 7.65 mm ammo from Fiocchi, 93 grain. It stove-pipes a lot. Someone said to try hotter ammo. Does anybody know of something with more powder?

Hotter ammo is rarely the answer to Luger reliability issues. Try a different magazine first. Then try cleaning below your extractor and check your ejector for any damage

Hi Tom,
Welcome to the forum, and congratulations on your Luger. The most common cause of stovepipes in a Luger after the cleaning and magazine issues mentioned above, involves the way you are holding it. If the Luger doesn't get adequate support, it interferes with the recoil impulse and the timing of the pistol's ejection/loading cycle. Another possibility involves the condition of the recoil spring. If you choose to replace it (Wolff makes them) make sure you get the right one for a .30 Luger pistol rather than a 9mm. I suppose it's also possible that the wrong one was installed at some point.... Marc |
Tom, welcome to the forum.
Pictures please, I like ANY luger :) |

7.65 Ammo
Quote:
I'm no expert on the 7.65, but I have discussed this very subject with two gentlemen who are. They both claimed that the Fiocchi ammo is down loaded for some other Italian pistols that were loaded for it in the distant past. If it were me, I'd try a box of Winchester through the pistol first to see it that ammo will properly funciton it, as is. Sieger |

Gotta LOVE this! |
I have the same gun ( 1920 Commercial in 7.65 and shoot the same ammo ) with no issues. are you useing there 93 SP or the FMJ?
|
I have shot Fiocchi for many years in 20 Commercials.I have found the FMJ to be a bit better than the SP in .30 Caliber.Great ammo for one half the price of Winchester.

Marc, Your are right on. I recently received for repair a PO8 rebarrelled to 7.65mm; a real jamomatic, since it still had a 9mm recoil spring. Tom

I have shoot a good amount of 7.65 Luger Fiocchi ammo thru my luger and it works great. I always use the FMJ variety Just a plug for Fiocchi ammo in general.I have shot their 45 ACP,9mm Luger,32 ACP,30 Mauser and even the 22 rimfire. It all works great with very little fouling. I also like the fact they load for unusual (weird?) European calibers, like 9 mm Steyr and .455 Webley. Who knows, someday a nice Webley might catch my eye? Bob |
