Police Sear safety retainer
 

Does anybody make the little pin,rivet that holds this retainer to the upper reciever? Mine came out, And I had to make one out of a stainless steel nail. it works, And looks great. But I would like to get original ones for spares. Bill Masterson.

Bill, you find a source or someone willing to make them, I would buy 10-20 of them if reasonable :)

Since my blueprint CD is for the original P.08 and not a police model, unfortunately there is no blueprint for this rivet. Anyone with a metal lathe and an old brass cleaning rod should be able to make these by the dozens... I have the lathe, but at the moment, just don't have time. Check with Postino...

If this rivet is a teeny tiny itty-bitty thingie, then you are entering the realm of micro-machining...Which postino has big problems with...My tools are just not well-made enough to hold tolerances that small... :(

If you were really energetic, you could check Ace Hardware, or a specialty hobby shop (like the ones who sell/service radio-controlled airplanes, or scale model trains) for a rivet close enough to pass detection from original...

Making one from a nail sounds good to me... :D

At one time my local ACE Hardware did carry round headed steel brads (small nails) that worked well, but now all they have are made of brass. TH

It is not correct and will instantly stand out.....

I did make the hardware store rounds, (that's how I came by the small stainless steel nail) But yeah I didn't think of the model train hobby, And we have a big model train store here in Louisville. Will check on it this weekend. If I remember.. the shaft of the rivet is around .035, so yeah you would need a jewelers lathe to make these.

Hi to all, you don't really need a small lathe to make small parts... just a very repeatable and stable (QUALITY) lathe, that's where the accuracy comes from, stabality and no wear in the head stock... Unless you have a spare 10K to drop on a USED CLAUSSEN Lathe, The only advantage to small lathes, is usually they can spin something up to light speed in RPM...:eek:...well you know what I mean, anyway, guys like Rich, Rick and me, get a feel for our lathe, and can hold a few thou pretty well, tighter tol. is for better equip. still, If i could get an original rivet, I'd probably make some... best to all, til...lat'r...GT ....:thumbup:
