Halos on serial #s
I am looking at purchasing a 1917 DWM that is in excellent condition. The only concern is the serial numbers on the barrel and the receiver have halos. The gun does not appear to be refinished. There is no evidence of buffing.
Please advise as to the possible reason for the halos. Joe |
Generally a good thing on the early guns, showing that the metal heaved up a bit on the pressure of stamping/numbering, discoloring the finish. It is a sign of original finish.

Joe,
Halos are a good thing. If refinished, there wouldn't be any halos. Ron |
Pictures.
Thanks all for answering so soon. I will not get the gun till next week so I will post pictures then.
I bought my first Luger (DWM 1914) a few weeks ago and now I am hooked! I have two more on the way. Joe |
Joe, the subject of halos has been extensively discussed on both Forums and would be instructive to look up "halos" under the search feature.
