New Member Question -- Mauser Logo
 

I'm looking at getting a post-war Mauser (Interarms) P08. The few that I've looked at so far have the word "Original " and Mauser logo" on them -- which is a little cheesy IMHO. Do all the post-war Interarm Lugers have that marking? I would be more inclined to get one without.

Yes. They had to change the logo for some legal reason that I can't remember.

As explained in the other thread.

It was a marketing thing, which actually started in the 1930s and was resurrected in the 1960s. You won't have any luck finding one without 'original', because Mauser didn't make post-war Parabellums without it (oh, well, some commemoratives with the DWM logo).

In fact it's on the post war HSc pistols as well.

A keen collector will look for the different variations of the 'original Mauser' logo. The first ones were put on using an etching process. Later toggles were marked using a roll die.

Thanks for your kind answers. The explanation on the referenced thread gives me a greater appreciation for why the logo marking is the way it is. I'll continue to look for a post-war. Are GunBroker and Simpsons the best places to look?

You were on the right track. Mauser and Interarms had to use the "Parabellum" brand name because the "Luger" brand name was still registered in the USA.

Approximately two months ago....after undergoing Heart Surgery.....I figured I needed a "Toy" for having survived all the drama that went with it....2 days in ICU..etc....but I digress here....///anyway....I found an Interarms Mauser..9mm..with the 6" Barrel.....has the Swiss Style Grip.......and what appealed to me most....it had the American Eagle logo on the front portion and on the back......it had "Original Mauser"...(which by the way looks Very Good and just adds to the pistols mystique)....I spent two years in Germany stationed at Ramstein Air Base way back when......and "My Mauser" with both logos on the top....just remind me of my Service back in what I called "Paradise"...its honestly one of the most Beautiful Pistols I own.....shoots fantastic....and overall looks.....I would have to give it a 12 on a scale of 10.....now.....if I could just figure a way to sneak another one in... by the way....that 6" barrel just makes it even better looking if thats possible.....by the way....I Loved the Interarms ad.......Thanks......Hans Fischer ...

The ad indicates that it is available in .30 Luger with a 6" bbl. or 9mm with a 4" bbl. They also released it in a 9mm with a 6" bbl???

If anyone has or knows about a 6" 9mm in box with accessories, I would appreciate knowing about it. Please PM.

Initially Mauser offered the pistols in 6" .30 luger and 4" 9mm. This was the result of some technical problems they had with the Swiss design on which they based their pistols.

After those problems were fixed, and the old frames had been used, they were able to offer just about any barrel length. A 4" .30 luger version was made, as well as the 6" 9mm.

Vaavosh, Welcome to the Forum.. an Artillery Luger in 7.63 Mauser is going to be awesome. Yes! That would be something..when you get it please post some experiences with the performance.
