Odd proofs on a DWM
 

I wonder if anyone would be able to ID these proofs for me? All I have on this gun is this photo and a shot of the toggle so we know its a DWM, but I do not have access to the date. Thanks very much for any help you may be able to offer.

Hi, they are Weimar follow-ups of the old Imperial proofs.

Those are Weimar era "Dove" and "Stick Eagle" (Buzzard) proofs found only on 1920 and 1921 production DWM Military and Police contract Lugers.

The Dove proofs look to be "bounce" or "Double" struck.

If you look very closely you will see detail differences in the inspection stamps. The eagles on this gun are #148 in Costanzo--can't post a scan right now. They do not have the WaA4 underneath.

Ignore Costanzo's interpretation. These are assuredly a stamp held by a different inspector from the accustomed (bird)/WaA4 inspector. Along with the proof stamp, these marks indicate that the pistol is 1921 military production. It would be very useful to see the other markings on this pistol.

That is very useful info that you have all provided and I thank you. Regret that I am not able to get my hands on this pistol, we only had a few photos but no more with markings. You guys are all very generous and I am grateful. Dave:thumbsup:
