3rd Reich Holster-Interesting closure?
 

Gentlemen: I picked up this Luger Holster. I have not seen this type of closure before. On the back of the holster it is stamped with acceptence and there faintly is a makers name that I can't make out. Any info on this holster as to the type and possible maker is appreciated. Thanks -Dave

You have a P.38 holster. The brown ones are desirable , if in sound condition.

it is a P38 holster. There is not a place for the tool of the P08.

Thanks guys! It never occured to me this could be a P38 holster.I picked this up as a rig with an all matching #'s S/42 1938 Luger in it with miss-matched mags, 1 Imperial wooden bottom and one metal bottom Police mag. Supposedly this was brought back this way. I notice now that the spare mag pouch is wider and to me I thought the loading tool pouch had ripped away or was taken out. Other than the holster being scratched up there is a little rip of the leather on one of the belt loops at the top right under where your belt would ride.

It is possible that the luger was in it during the war, but far more likely that it was matched up by a GI. A luger fits in it, and many GI's grabbed a holster. In many of the rear area's when weapons were turned in, guns in one pile, holsters in another, magazines in a 3rd and so on.

GI's would pick what they wanted.

Unless you talked to who brought it back, and they remembered right, that is the only way you'd know :)

Looks like it has undergone a "GI cut" to make it into a quick draw holster.

I went online and looked at other P38 holsters of this type and comparisn with others I understand the "GI" cut Aaron mentions. Ed, That's probably what happend, A GI put together. The shop that I picked up the rig said a younger guy brought it in and that it was his Grandfathers bringback. What I do know from observation is that both the gun and the spare mag spent some time in the holster do to green(Vertigris?) on the mag and stuck in the checkering of the grips. - A side question? -What's a good way to get that green stuff out of the checkering without hurting the checkering/grips? There is not a whole lot of it. I was thinking a soft toothbrush would work -Dave

yes, soft toothbrush and a very light soap and water will work.

I have cleaned very dirty grips with harsher methods, but less is better.
