Police unit marking
Gentlemen,
A friend's father was the chief of police in a Norwegian city during the war. By the Germans he was issued a DWM 1916 Luger with 1920 property stamp, it also has this front strap marking which is a mystery to me. The picture doesn't show the "L" present below the "S.P.". He has promised to send more (and better) pictures, but can anybody help to shed some light on the unit(?) marking? Don? Regards, Balder http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...frontstrap.jpg |
John, following WWI, the pistol was issued to the State Security Police of Saxony (Sächsische Landessicherheitspolizei). These militarized units were merged with the precinct police in various cities just as the Prussian Sipo was merged to form the Schupo. This gun was then marked by the Sächsische Polizei or Schutzpolizei of Leipzig. Can you tell me the serial number and whether it has/had sear or mag safeties?

Don,
Thank you! Serial number 9217, can't see if there is a suffix. And it does have a Schiwy safety. I'll post more pictures if and when they arrive. Balder |
