The straw looks to be freshened up(to me)on the 1937, he doesn't allow for an inspection period either. Straw is to bright for a 74 yr old gun, at least to my eyes.

The 1936 looks honest, I would probably go for it. The seller doesn't specify inspection period, I would surely ask before bidding.

I could be way off base on both FWIW. I sure ain't no expert.

Hi John, I have to disagree with Steve above (sorry Steve). I like the 1937 which seems to me to be an authentic example of a rather scarce sub-variation. The 1936 appears to me to be refinished, the muzzle on rust blued guns should be "in the white", and the knurled portions of the strawed parts look suspiciously clean. Of course, all this is based on the rather poor photos offered by both sellers. Best regards, Norm

The straw on both may have been cleaned up a bit and I say "maybe". Both these S/42's look to have fine original finish, especially the 1937. I particularly like the halos around the barrel serial number of the 1937. If I were in the market for these last of the rust blued fine made Mauser luger types, I would give them serious consideration. Getting a three day inspection period honored to and from Norway may be a little difficult unless they are actually to be bought in the US.

Thank you for your input, I was also a bit concerned about the strawing on the 1937. How about price?

Even though I am in Norway, the potential buyer is in Texas. I guess I need to take some blame/credit for his interest in Lugers - he came visiting here two years ago and seemed to like my little collection of 11 Lugers, one of which we took to the range as well. Contagious little things they are.

There is something stange about markings on the right side of receiver of the 1936 ..... according to my information it doesnt match ( the numbers are to big regarded to the "eagle" )....but on the other hand the price, if still of 1300 $, is not too much for a 70 years old gun...

would be kind if Norm will comment about markings...

Hi Pierre, I don't see anything wrong with the right side marks, they look like my 1936 S/42. I'm not crazy about the condition and that blued muzzle bothers me. Of course, it could just be the photo....

Many thanks for the comment Norm ! the drawings in my documentation are something different.... so I'll try to find some more documentation about these "waffenamt markings " but yours pictures will help for a next examination of one of these S42 Lugers
