My New PPK

6 Attachment(s)
Guys,
I have been collecting Lugers for more years than most members have been around. Sunday I ventured into uncharted territory; that is "uncharted for me". What I know about PPK's can be written on a pistol primer. This past Sunday night I was following a gun auction on proxiebid.com and this PPK came up. I studied the pictures on and off for the better part of an hour. The more I looked, the more I fell in love. When this PPK rolled around, I just had to have it. Here are a few pictures that the auction provided. I asked our resident PPK expert here on the forum if this could be factory original chrome. He said that Walther did not chrome or nickel early PPs or PPKs. However in the Blue Book of Gun Values, the author clearly states that early Commercial model were offered in a variety of finishes. It surely looks factory to me. Your thoughts and opinions will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Mike

I was told that this serial number, 861025, was built in 1931 or 1932. As I stated before, my knowledge of the PP and PPK is very limited. Any information I have was gathered from other forum members or reference books.

If you take your photos over to the P38forum.com, which is our sister forum, they also have a section for the walther pocket pistols and the experts there can guide you with more accuracy.

I don't know much more than you when it comes to these pistols, except that I like them a lot. But I don't believe that this pistol was made as early as has been described. I THINK this may be a post war PPK, but then I am telling you more than I know...

If I had the money, and it was appropriately priced, I would buy this one to carry!

John,
I did as you suggested and posted on the PPK forum. While I was there, I pulled up a thread that gives production dates. It is stated that PPK serail number 8290XX thru 9327XX were bullt in 1935. Serial number of this PPK is 861025. I likewise thought about using it for a carry weapon. The hammer price was $800.00
