Help identify a few magazines please
 

Hi Guys,



As you know, I'm more a shooter than a collector. The lugers I have, I have to shoot. My head spins when I'm trying to figure out all the stamps and features I'm looking at because I'm not too bright. What concerns me most is whether or not they shoot and are all of the parts original arsenal bits. I don't care if they match so long as they work! Same with magazines. I bought a few recently simply to use. I know that they're not modern repros. but that's about all I know. Only one of the three (magazine "1") are marked with anything besides a serial and two of the three (magazines "2" and "3") have been renumbered at some point. You guys can tell in an instant what you are looking at (I'll never under stand how you do....majik I figure) so please tell me what I bought. It doesn't really matter I guess but i always like to know at least a little bit about what I'm using so as not to be completely ignorant! Anywho, in the first two pictures, mag. "1" is on bottom and "3" is on top. In the second two, "1" is on the left and "3" is on the right. The best part is...they were cheap and they work! If you need more or better pictures, just ask. I believe the first one is an original WW2-era Nazi proofed military magazine, perhaps for a Mauser S/42. The other two are police magazines. I am unsure of the date range on the latter two. All three look to be in great condition. The first one may be worth over a hundred bucks by itself if it is unaltered.

I believe #545 and #3611 are post war East German Police mags.

Wouldn't they be marked with the "2/1001" marking on the left side? Every Eastie I've ever seen was marked that way.

I agree with the above comments. You may find DDR extruded mags with "off center" pinned alum bottoms on reworked WW2 code 122, FXO or unmarked tubes, as well as on their 2/1001 marked ones. TH

Great!! I was hoping that numbers 2 and 3 were DDR mags but I thought that the Easties always have the 1001 stamp. It only makes sense that they reworked old mags as well as making new ones but it had never occured to me. I guess it's true that you learn something new every day. Clark, the first magazine has not been altered and came from a different source than the other two. It's in original condition. If anyone has the pistol that it goes to, contact me and we can possibly work out a trade for an Eastie magazine/s in similar condition. Anywho, thanks for the advise guys!

I am looking for a magazine close to the 2944 range for a 1939 code 42 Luger.

I'm sure that there are others here who would benefit from the pics you have...but not if they're on PhotoBucket...

PhotoBucket regularly 'upgrades' their site, now using Flash for uploads, and I can speak from experience that pics posted to PB can get re-listed under another URL and be lost to anyone who tries to link to them...and others who use an OS/browser that does not have the latest Flash upgrade can be left pic-less as well*... :(

So...LugerForums management/moderators strongly suggest that you post your pics right to your thread, here...and they will be preserved for those of us who Search for them here in the future... :thumbup:

I would slightly rephrase above, that they were 'used' by the east germans, not that they are east german magazines. Real, made for the east german magazines are marked 2/1001, just as ww1 magazines were used by the weimar police, they still originally were WW1 mags.

George, I'm not interested in selling it but I'll trade it even up for a DDR produced magazine stamped with either serial 4924 or serial 722. OR I'll trade it even up fore two DDR produced mags with any serial number in equal condition to the magazine in question.

Fact is, I'm a Technoidiot....I'm dumb as a box of rocks when it comes to these electronic boxes. Hell, it's a miracle I can even figure out how to post anything at all! I'll figure it all out someday.....
