Confused About Sneaks...

Trying to understand sneaks...

I have read elsewhere and also heard on old threads on this Message Board that sneaks were just assembled at the various luger works from left-over parts.

I read in Aaron Davis' book that they might have been assembled un-officially by luger works employees outside of the factory with parts smuggled out in lunch boxes, etc.

Can sneaks apply to both cases ? If so would the factory-sneaks still have inspector markings ? (I assume the home-assembled sneaks would not.)

How do you guys spot sneaks in your luger huntings ?

Pete

Sneaks were made in the late 20"s and early 30"s by DWM. A true sneak had no date and no DWM stamped on the gun. They were of the highest quality, and had all inspectors marks, etc on them.

Pete, Parts smuggled out of a plant and and later assembled by god-knows who, are generally refered to as "lunch box specials" and usually don't have test fire proofing and/or factory applied serial numbers. Although, these features will also apply to many of the pistols, that the GIs had factory workers assemble for them at the end of WW2. Tom h.
