Luger Values for Thor Restored Lugers
 

I have a good friend and client that has three Lugers that is seeking help from any collector in the NorthEast Pennsylvania area to inspect and give estimate a value on three Lugers I have restored for him. Thanks! Thor

PS Looked them up and they are: G Date Mauser Luger, 1921 DWM, 1918 Erfurt.

Mr. Green, You have restored my 1912 DWM, and my 1913 Erfurt. I cannot assign a value to them. I consider both priceless. Just my .02 cents.

Ted, i would volunteer but I am kinda not 'in' PA right now ;)

I have always felt that you take the value of a 98% luger of whatever vintage and a restored is around 40-50% of that. Much more than a shooter, but less than a original gun...

He could get many wild and some accurate estimates at the Allentown show in a month in May

Hi Thor......You havent restored a Luger/PPK/..etc..etc. for me...as yet.....but that day is coming.!!...as Im always looking and especially will be at our April Military Show.........and when you do .....in my humble opinion...when I get it back....it will be PRICELESS..!!!....I can only think back to our last show when I saw a Wartime PPK sell for around $350 as all the finish was worn off of it......sigh....I know better now........///..Anyway....keep up the good work......Everything you work on is as I said....in my humble opinion ...is a "KEEPER".......... Thanks Hans for the nice compliment. I talked to my client today and he said he lived close to Allentown and would give the show a try, Thanks Ed for recommending it.

I'm pretty confident that a documented Thor restoration will bring a premium compared to regular restoration / reblue guns.

My Thor restored AE Test Luger makes most think it is a mint original! Why would I disagree with them! They are floored when I tell them it was restored. I can't say more than that!!

I tend to think like Ed for most restorations, in the 50% range, of a 98% gun however; many of Thor's guns are beautiful and restorations have been selling pretty good lately. There is a market for what he does that adds a premium, ( many people want an outstanding example). It doesn't matter what collectors want, its about market price. So I would add a 20% to that and say 70% to 80% depending on the gun.

As collectors we tend to get stuck in a rut, Thor's guns are eye catchers, and if taken care of will always have good resale value in the open market.

the 1918 Erfurt and the 1921 DWM both have custom made mahogany cases by Les Center. One case has the Imperial symbol laser cut into the top of the case and the other has the Weimar symbol laser cut. I think those are the same Eagles that are on Jan Still's books.

Ted, You restored my 1910 shooter before you got sick a while back, Total resto, I think around $850.00, Anyway I have been offered $1800.00 for it, But I don't think I'll ever part with it. I don't even shoot it now, (shame) afraid something could give out. And since I made a custom walnut/ blue velvet case for it, It's pretty much a looker now. Anyway, I'm glad I sent it out to you for the resto. It's evident your name carries weight in the Luger world. Bill Masterson.

Thor did a restoration of a K date for me. The results of his work took my breath away. He is an artist and master of gun restoration of the highest order. I cannot speak of his other works but the one example that I am priviledged to own, I consider it now a cherished heirloom. I enjoy that gun and have have Thor to thank for returning it to it's past glory. If I could afford it, if it's a Thor restored gun, I would be honored to buy it if for no other reason because it is a Thor restored gun. Truely beautiful work.

Thanks to this forum I hooked-up with Ted on an all matching, previously re-blued/dipped 1939/code-42 military luger restoration. I decided to go full bore with Ted's TDJ treatment eventhough an original 1939/42 luger was not issued rust blued with strawed parts, just wanted to see what an earlier era pistole would look like brand new, 100yrs ago. At Ted's direction, we chose Hugh Clark, and GT for wooden grip re-checkering and magazine rehab with new custom made bottoms. Anyway, what I received was an amazing piece of art, probably considered as a fancy "shooter" grade piece by collectors, but definitely far too nice to shoot. Absolutely worth the price/wait to have three of the best in the business represented on this project. Also, when comparing my minty original rust blued 1936/S42, to Ted's rust blue work on the restoration, I cannot tell a difference in color between the two. After discussing this revelation with Ted it became apparent how much work, effort and skill is put into preparing metal and solution to result in a beautiful original looking finish. This applies to the fine work of Hugh and Gerry as well, priceless.
