Shooter Value

My shooter is a 1916 Erfurt with a decent reblue and restraw job (only slight rounding in a couple of spots, tool marks still show on the ears and right side of receiver). It's got some miles on it since it was redone, with light holster wear in expected places, enough use that the trigger strawing is a little lightened on the right where the previous owner's finger rubbed, and a toggle stamp on the back of the receiver. All matching numbers, including an apparently original mag with correct number and stamped #2. I paid $575 for it about 9 years ago. Any guesses what it's worth currently? Sorry, too inept to post pics.

Reblued shooters are in the $500 to $700 range. David

I would amend that to say "Buffed & reblued Lugers"...If just dipped (not buffed, or very slightly), at least another $100 higher...

(My valuing source = Jackson Armory in Dallas , Texas, where even a Russian capture is worth $950 starting bid -

Russian Capture...refinished...put together from WWI and WWII parts...short barrel...good shooter Luger... Some surface wear...rebarreled...Numbers don’t match...Wood grips have some wear... Comes with one (not matching) magazine...As is.

And here's another $950 shooter; same source -

That's the opening bids, mind you... ;)

Those are a couple of nasty looking pieces. At least mine looks good. Actually, I've always wondered why the guy who had it reblued had it reblued, considering it's all-matching (I forgot to mention, even the grips are the right number). Seems like he would have been better off leaving it as it was, even if the finish was not so good.

Post some pics!!!

No valuation can be made without pics, and even then it will only be a guess...there's no substitute for hands-on evaluation...

There are a couple of quick & dirty tutorials here about posting pics *directly* to this Forum...It's actually pretty easy...

That particular seller usually has some reasonable prices...Dunno why he's jacking [pun intended] the opening bids up...

Personally, I have nothing against re-bluing...It's the overly aggressive buffing that really angers me...

(It's my pet peeve, as everyone here can attest)
