When did they stop Making Lugers?

My deceased brother had a .30Cal Luger that was brand new when I last saw him in 2000. He never stated when or where it was purchased. I think he said it was carried by Artillery Officers? I hope to get this weapon by the end of the month.

Robert,

The German Military Luger production stopped circa 1945. Mauser reintroduced Lugers for commercial sales in the 1970's. They made several different variations and styles. If your brother's Luger is new? It is most likely one of 70's era Mausers. Some of the variations they made were very limited in number, and so command higher values than the more common "Swiss" and "P.08" styles.

The later Mauser's are outside of my area of collecting, so maybe someone more knowledgeable will join in and offer some expertise, or correct my statement.

"carried by Artillery Officers?" There are Artillery Lugers (8" Barrel), but weren't necessarily carried by Artillery Officers. They were issued to Artillery Crews as defensive weapons, and later issued to Machine Gun Crews, and then Storm Troops as assault weapons. All German Military Lugers are in 9mm Parabellum (Luger) caliber.

If you could post some photos it would aid in identification.

I will as soon as my sister gets the weapon to FEDEX to ship to my ffl location

Bob,

Yes it would be quite the find. Here's a photo posted by Mauro Baudino of one with the P.08 variation from his collection.
