Last Surviving WW-I Veterans
Hi,
Several news outlets are carrying the story that the last surviving US World War I veteran died on Sunday. One of 4,734,991 Americans to have served in World War I, Frank Buckles died at the age of 110 Sunday. He had "misrepresented" his age to enter the armed forces when he was 16. He also served in the merchant marine during World War II, and was held as a prisoner of war by the Japanese in the Philippines. The CNN online article is here. There are two documented allied veterans from Great Britain still living according to the WikiPedia article. Marc |
I saw the article.
May he rest in peace. He served well. |

Bill,
That a very nice photo. I love the frame. God bless him! Douglas |

Just wondering if he was in the same Inf Reg as my dad... ;) |
Bill, That Springfield he is holding looks bigger than he was, and with the bayonet fixed, you can be sure that it was. And yet, there he is, standing tall and doing his duty. What a great picture.
May the good Lord rest his soul and the souls of all who fought to preserve our freedoms. Regards, Doug |
Dad was in the 43 Infantry, Co M. The picture was taken in Fort Logan Texas. The frame is as old as the picture 1917-1918. I believe these were bought on the base, or even furnished? The rifle is an Enfield. Thanks for responding. Bill
