New to the forum and have a serial # Question
Hello to All,
I'm brand new to the board and also recently became a new Luger owner. I just recently purchased a 1939 "42" coded P08 which is in excellent shape and appears to have all the correct markings based on my research. However, one thing that struck me as a bit odd is that it has only a 3 digit serial number as opposed to 4 digits. Is this an oddity or is it more common than I think? Any help is much appreciated. Thanks |
Approx 9 % of the Lugers had a 3 digit serial #,no extra value.

Hi Dan, Welcome to the forum. Military Lugers are numbered in blocks of 10,000, each one followed by a suffix letter. One in ten guns have a three digit serial, one in a hundred have two, and one in a thousand have only one. Regards, Norm.

That makes total sense with the numbers in blocks of 10000. Thanks Bob and Norm. I have been here about 20 minutes and have learned alot already.
