I'm new here but not new to the art of the luger.
When I was 13 I found a "1937" luger in the basement.. Just wondering If I could get some info because I dont know much about it, and everyone who would has passed on to the next world. "1937" and "S/42"stamped on the top, Serial "3470" on barrel and "P.08" on the side, but has 1224 on the front with an "i". so I'm guessing it's not matching? 3277 is on wooden clip that I found it with,also on the clip are an "a" and "+". has the "Gesichert" in yellow stamped by safety. This gun shoots, 9MM. nice swirl down the barrel (I don't know much about guns) Lots of pitting all over it, and you guys are gonna hate me I put the steel wool to the barrel when I was 13:banghead: but not too bad...I'm 25 now...god what a fool. What have I got here? |
sounds like a mismatch, pictures would help, but yes, whatever number is on the frame, should have the last 2 of the serial number on most small parts.
The receiver was made in 1937, the S/42 would be correct also and stands for Mauser. We all do silly things like steel wool, etc on items when we are smaller. Welcome to the forum Ed |

and how do I know what year the base of the gun is if the serial numbers dont match. And is there anyway to find out where this was made or who it was issued to? (long shot i know). |

I moved the thread from Krieghoff's (since yours is a Mauser) to the new collector area, I also changed the title to reflect your luger (that is helpful for searches later).

Now that's NICE! Luger maybe cheaper to own but they're not as much fun, IMHO.

Amazing to see an example with its factory spec. rims and tires still on it.
In my era they were invariably jacked up, Cragars and wide Mickey Thompson tires installed. A Hurst shifter was "de riguer", as was removal of the factory radio in favor of a Pioneer, Panasonic or Clarion tape deck and speakers. Keeping it factory original was cool. |

You have a mismatched "shooter" but a nice one. Value is around $650-$700.

Just a WAG, but on top of all else, the grips look like repros...
With a bare barrel, mismatched parts, and the corrosion [pic below], I'd say $500 - $600 on this forum; maybe a hundred more at a gun show...and that's being generous... ...Sorry... |
I don't think the grips are repros............Have you removed them to see any markings inside?
(read how to remove them here first, so they are not damaged!!) |

They are not repro's. this gun was sitting untouched for almost 40 years... although kept in a paper bag(dry) in a musty/damp basement. great shooter.http://forum.lugerforum.com/images/smilies/beerchug.gif |

Welcome to the forum, and thanks for posting the photos. From what i can see, the toggle train looks to be matched, but can't see firing pin etc. on the inside of the train. It doesn't match the barrel and receiver, which don't match the frame. If you remove the grips(very carefully), it will be interesting to see if they match the frame. The mag matches nothing on the Luger.
As has been stated, you have a shooter grade Luger, that if it works correctly, should be worth in the neighborhood of $700 in my part of the Country. If you want to field strip it and check the internal numbers, plus clean and lube it, youtube has some very nice videos on the luger. |
