P08 Mixmaster Impressions

Hello,

Been lurking a awhile and thank you very much for such an informative forum. I picke this up from a recent gunshow, I knew it was a mixmaster, and plan on using it as a shooter. From what I can tell, it's one of those 1920's guns. nothing matches, the good thing is it is 9mm and free of rust on the inside, I cleaned what little rust on the outside, have not shot it, but did do the pencil (in this case a chopstick) and the thing hit the ceiling. No date on the barrel, the barrel has sharp rifling and looks like it's been shot very little. The mag has a "0" stamped on it, and the grips do not match the contour of the gun, looks way too big and overhang, the front sight looks odd as well, I am green behind the gills in Luger but it did not cost me much. Let me know what you guys think Also, is 124gr S&B 9mm ammo OK to use in this gun? know 115gr is OK. Any info is greatly appreciated!
Now for the pics:

Well, let me make a few guesses...Barrel looks like a new replacement (obviously longer than normal), receiver is commercial, frame looks like a military from the serial, grips are oversize/aftermarket and you fit them yourself...DWM toggle...

Looks like it could be a fun shooter!!! :)

A grade A shooter. And once you get use to the 6" the 4"er's just will not due. Or so I hear.
Welcome!

I took the Luger down to 70 % components and amazed how this thing was designed. I can see why a lot of gunsmithing would have to be done to fit all of the parts, not loosely like the 1911, much much tighter... would compare to the tightness of my Nighthawk talon of today. I hope this is not a start of a bug, as I like the design

Wait til you shoot it - pinpoint accuracy, esp. with the long barrel. Speaking of the 1911, did you know that DWM furnished some .45 ACP Lugers for the trials that ended with acceptance of Browning's and Colt's pistol that would become the M1911?

Actually the 1907 Luger in 45 ACP was still in competition with the Colt .45 when the US Ord Dept requested 200 more for field testing, but DWM refused to up scale production for less than 1000, so Savage took DWMs place in the competition. TH

What is the barrel length?

Bongos 02-14-2011 07:10 PM

it's 6" , I showed it to my friend and it's confirmed a new barrel with super high front sight which gives it a point of aim impact at 15 yards, I changed all of the springs except the trigger with Wolff, will take it out this week for a range report. The more I play with gun, I am amazed on how each part is made and put together and designed...

I like the gun, but don't take this the wrong way. I don't like the front sight. It looks so different from the standard front sight on a 4 incher. I have always wanted a Luger with a 6 inch barrel. Enjoy it.

it's a shooter and it's unique in it's own way... I like it! Thanks for comments

Waiting for the range report. Hope it doesn't turn out to be a Jamomatic, a real risk with parts Lugers.

It was raining today, only can go out 20 feet
10 round groups weaver stance
new wolff springs installed, no problems out of the 50 rounds fired

Khanh,

That's certainly an accurate Luger!

Looks like you have a really good shooting Luger.

Lugers feel different when you fire them, don't they?

And be forewarned.... the "addiction begins"!!!!

Congratulations,

Marc

Thanks Marc! Yea, it's different type of recoil, I find target acquisition recovery is quick and precise...

You seem to have lucked out, great performance from a parts Luger.
