The 1920 is not a date, it is a property stamp from the Weimar goverment in the 1920's to denote that the gun was taken into their inventory for subsequent issue to a goverment department. |
Welcome to the Lugerforum Frank. This is commonly called a "double-date" but that name is wrong.
1917 was the year of manufacture. In 1920, the German government declared that all arms that were government property were to receive a stamp to indicate that it was not private property... the second date (1920) is the date of the marking used for that purpose. (Boy that guy Alanint sure can type fast!) |
