WW2 Lugers

Hi to all,
I am beginning the process of looking to purchase my first luger and have a few initial questions. What does the term straw mean? Also , are the online auction sites a good place to look for a nice WW2 luger? Thanks.

Suggest you buy Jan Still's Third Reich Lugers first.

Straw coloring refers to a heat treating process that leaves the parts a golden "straw" color. Used on small parts up to 1937. You won't see it after that date because it was an unnecessary step in production, but looked nice.
The online sites are a wonderful place to educate yourself, but not a place for beginners to buy. Pick out a gun that suits your fancy and send us a link. We will pick it apart for you. Also watch the For Sale section of this forum. You will be dealing with honest sellers with other honest members looking on. Maybe place an ad in the Wanted section.

You are walking into a field full of landmines and knowledge is essential. It is tough for a
beginner without some knowledgeable collector to help you.Try to find someone to help you
and buy that book first.
