Help in Buying a Luger
I am interested in buying a Luger and the number of choices on both dealer sites and the auction sites is overwhelming. I could use some help if any one knows any good deals out there for my first Luger. I have not decided on a particular era to collect, just a military 9mm. I would like an all matching (except mag), lower collector grade where my investment would be safe and I would not be a tragedy to shoot occasionally. Please PM if you have any leads. Thanks for any help.

Suggest you give a price range because that could limit your choices.

I am not looking at a particular price point, more of just a good deal that would guard my investment. For starters I would say around $1500.

$1500 will allow you to get a nice luger, all matching except mag with no rust, pitting or reblue.

Now you will have to find one that is correct but it sounds like you do not have the knowledge
to do that. Bob |
Simpson's or Phoenix Investments have interesting Lugers in that price range...
You could also bid on consignments in the auction houses, too... Then there is Gunbroker, AuctionArms, and GunsAmerica... Personally, I prefer Gunbroker...It's an online auction, but there are some really good deals fairly often... I'm always looking for a decent Russian Contract Luger... :D Edit: If you are overwhelmed in what is being offered, then our own For Sale Forum is your best bet... ;) |

Does any one see any good deals on gunbroker now?

Hi Mike, If I was in your position I would rather overpay for an authentic Luger from a well respected dealer, like Simpson Ltd., than underpay on Gunbroker for a gun that has been faked. Good luck, Norm.

You don't list where you live. But there are two gun shows next month that are worth going to. Chantill VA & Louisville KY. Good places to pick one up, talk to some of the dealers and learn some before you purchase.

Hi Mike and welcome to the Forum. There is a lot of good, free advice here and maybe waiting and watching for members selling guns might be best for you, especially if your are inexperienced. By all means check out the more reputable sites. Also watch some of the auction sites and note what is being offered, how much is bid, and what is moving. By moving, I mean being sold. If you see something that interest you, by all means refer to it in a post on this forum and get an opinion.

I have an all matching 1917 P08 I purchased from a member a couple of years ago that I will be selling soon. All matching, with matching magazine. I like to shoot mine so I have changed the extractor and firing pin, original parts will come with it. If you're interested PM me.
