SARCO $17 Grips - Are They Junk
Can they be re-checkered/re-worked to look nice?
If they are junk where can I get a decent pair that won't cost me $100 or more? |
Re: SARCO $17 Grips - Are They Junk
Try EBay, there are occasinally some showing up there. Don't get caught up in the 'feeding frenzy' that sometimes happens at those auctions. Decide on how much you are willing to pay and stick with that amount. http://www.ebay.com. Type in the search block--luger--

I located Hugh Clark through ebay who recommended this site to me. He has a set of mine. He is highly recommended by several members here. He charged me $35 to rechecker + $5.00 shipping.I don't have them back yet but have no doubt that they will be very well done. I'm sure you can contact him through here.

Grady; your grips will knock your eyes out when you get them back. Hugh is a master.

I saw the grips he sells on ebay and they looked very good. These were the Erfurt grips that were completely smooth, no marks on them at all but sn'd to the gun. They were probably sanded. Why some people go to so much trouble to screw something up amazes me.

Check with Tom Heller , see Luger Menu Links, he has them at all prices. Also has some from asia, not to bad for a shooter.

Re: SARCO $17 Grips
U git whut U pay fur!
The SARCO grips are made in India of Cocobolo. The wood is beautiful, regretfully, the workmanship is not. I buy them by the dozen to redo. I have to sort them as some will fit a Mauser frame, and some are smaller and will only fit the DWM & Erfurt frames. The last batch that I got, about half of the right grip panels were unusable because they were undersize. They are thicker than the originals and are checkered 16 LPI with a very sharp checkering that will hurt your hand after a clip full. They have a little gap around the safety lever. I sand off all the checkering and rechecker to the original 20 LPI, and sell the fully checkered for $50 + $5 P&I, and the border checkered pattern for $85 + $5 P&I. You can get Walnut grips from Nill that are almost identical to the originals. They fit so tightly that they will require a little "fitting" to go on your particular gun. They are very nice grips and will cost you around $70/pair including shipping. They can also be had in smooth configuration. I believe their quality control has slipped a little lately, as THOR had a bad experience with a pair of poorly checkered ones. I buy the smooth ones and checker them myself. I sell the fully checkered ones for $100 & the border checkered ones for $125. I don't intend this to be a commercial; but as a source of information to those interested. |

![]() SARCO grips as recieved from SARCO. :("> I forgot to mention that they also have a "ridge" or uncheckered edge around them, which should be sanded down and the checkering run all the way to the edge to duplicate the originals.

Re: SARCO $17 Grips
![]() Well Hugh, I bought some off of e-bay and then spent a lot of time getting them adjusted.
On the 1st picture, the safety would catch until I relieved the wood in the two red areas. And then on the other picture, I had to relieve the wood or the magazine would slide out, since it was pushed in by the grip! http://boards.rennlist.com/upload/edgrip2.jpg Very frustrating, so buying them from Hugh doesn't seem like a bad idea, grips for a Luger are much harder to adjust than .45 grips, which are just slabs of wood. (I've made several in zebra wood, very pretty). Hugh what does the Cocobolo grips look like smooth? Ed http://boards.rennlist.com/upload/EdGrip1.jpg |
