Wolf Ammo
 

Good evening! Just wanted comments on Wolf ammo. I have heard that the steel cases were not good for older guns

and not recommended for some others. With the guns most of you have I don't think you would risk messing them up.Its great shooting ammo. I've shot the 62 grain .223 in my AR15, 9mm in several others, and my 1911A1 Remington is flawless with the .45. The acccuracy factor is as good as I can shoot with any ammo. Should I run it through my Erfurt 1918 Police?

Plenty of original 9mm german ammo was steel case. Shoot the Wolf and enjoy the savings.


People who talk about steel case wear are just repeating stories they heard. Hog wash!

I am not sure what the exact issue is but the indoor range that I shoot at will no longer allow Wolf ammo. The sign says that it is due to air quality standards. Does anyone know more about this?

You should not shoot that ammo for one very good reason. That is it blows guns up! I have seen at least two Glocks that grenaded from using Wolf. Seems that sometimes they double charge the round. Not a problem until you get lucky. Treat you P.08 a little better at least shoot Q loads or get some of the GI ball that's floating around. The other thing to consider is where the melting laquer that coats the cases goes? My .02

Having fired thousands of rounds of Wolf in every caliber they make, from dozens of guns old and new, I must object to the spreading of false rumors about this fine ammo. I have never seen a documented case of failure of any kind. Please don't spread these lies!

I have had one failure out 10,000rnd of wolf ammo and is was not and over charge, it was a failed primer i.e."dud" as far as wolf ammo being safe , it's just fine. So happy shooting

First off let me say that I have shot wolf ammo before, but in an AK-47 that was designed for steel cased ammo. It is also a gun that is cheap enough and built loose enough that I don't care if it breaks. It was also designed to be thrown away after 50,000 rounds or so. However my P.08's are another story, parts are getting harder to find and more expensive, and I think we can all agree that brass on steel is better than steel on steel even if it is coated. I just don't see why people buy expensive guns and then find the cheapest crud to throw down the pipe! I see Winchester Q loads for sale regularly for $7.50 box compared to Wolf at $5. At least I can pick up my empties and either reload them or sell them! By the way I was in error when I said that the Wolf blew up some Glocks it was actually S&B ammo that did it. I just don't see where $2 a box is worth the risk of destroying a piece of history?


So if you want to shoot Wolf fine, but I still won't reccomend it to anyone for a collectible gun.

Walmart sells the 100 round loose Q-Loads for around $11.00. Hard to beat that.

Is that The Place To Shoot in Portland?


I asked them about it, they said that Wolf ammo

is very smoky, and that after a few rounds the

adjacent lanes are obscured.

Winchesters generic ammo. Seems like Remington calls theirs UMC and Federal calls their Eagle, but not sure of the names. It was probably PMC that forced the large ammo manufacturers to come out with an inexpensive line of ammo. Much of Winchesters ammo has the same headstamp of the military ammo.

Very true, plus NATO spec rds are (or were) somewhat weaker so they are not as harsh on your Luger. I guess it's a question of how much ammo you buy at one time. If I were going to go out and plink some I would go to Wally World and get a 100rd box or two of Winchester, if I were going to order my ammo in bulk it's hard to beat Wolf's prices some times as low as $2 a box. Or even better just start reloading but that's another story.
