Luger help/identification
 

Recently I received a luger, sadly nickle plated, and was wondering if someone knew a little more about it I have done alot of research but, cant really find anything. Also it has a luftwaffe eagle on the grip which I have not seen before. It is also all matching. Any help would be a appreciated thanks.

You have a nice Mauser made Luger. As you mention, the chamber number is also the date of manufacture, 1942.
This gun has been sadly relegated to shooter status by nickle plating it.
The grips, which do look original, have had a Luftwaffe cap badge imbedded into them by a previous owner. The eagle is not a factory or official addition and is not original to the gun.

I've had a couple of sets of grips with the LW badge inlayed into the wood. This must have been popular with the GIs. I've also seen some with Nazi party pins, etc. inset. TH

Also I have two clips one with an aluminum bottom with a german eagle with the number 63 below it above that a plus sign and above that an 'a'. The other clip is all black with a plastic bottom and just a plus sign on it also fxo and german eagle with a 37 below it. Any Ideas on them?

Any thought about stripping the nickel and salt bluing it? It will never be original again but it may become a whole lot easier to look at.

Or you could leave it in nickel and wear sunglasses when you pull it out.

I like the nickled guns, they are part of the history... Its a real luger and is how some GI (most likely) decorated it after the war.
