1938 S-42 questions.
 

I just bought this luger over the holidays and I would like some feedback on this model. It has a ( i ) by the serial number. It has one droop wing eagle and two stick wing eagles. The barrel has been replaced (rc) on barrel. The magazine has an m and 8 on it? I don't know much about the arsenal repair procedure, what’s that about. All numbers match except the barrel, hold open latch, firing pin, trigger plate assembly on the inside. Had to buy new grips. Went to the range and it shot fine for me but it stove piped when my friend shot it.

Your friend probably limp-wristed the grip while shooting. Looks like a fine shooter to me...

I believe that the barrel may be off an early commercial Luger, and have seen that crown/RC symbol on my own Erfurt from 1917. This "Revisions Commission" re-evaluated lugers and parts that failed initial inspection - usually for non mechanical (finish) issues.

There are a couple of different recoil springs used in Lugers. The WW-I guns used a spring with fewer turns than are commonly used with the later Mausers. I believe it's 18 turns for the older guns, and 20 for the later ones.

This and the cartridge (weight of the bullet 124gn versus 115gn, and powder charge) can affect the timing of a Luger.

While John's observation is most likely, if a firm grip doesn't resolve the problem you might look in these areas.
