Luger Frame size

I have read that the DWM Luger Frame is 129mm long and that of the Mauser produced frames is 300mm long, 1mm longer. The 129mm Frame size, thus it applies to Erfurt andf Simsons frames also?
Alf.

Alf,

Please check your math or at least your numbers. 129mm and 300mm are more than 1mm apart...

Also remember that early DWM frames were longer than the later DWM frames for the P.08

I'm a little confused here, too...

Where is this extra length in the early frames???

I've read that the barrel shank (part with the thread) was ~.100" longer...under 1/8"...

My S/42 frame is ~130mm long...[has nothing to do with this discussion; just wondering where the "long" frames have the extra length]...

Hi Rich, The early "long frame" guns were longer at the front of the frame - in the photos you can see that the curved area at the lower front of the frame on the early gun has a larger radius than on the late DWM frame. The Mauser and Krieghoff frames were 1mm longer at the rear. Regards, Norm.

Point taken, yes I was suppose to write 130mm.
Alf.

Thanks, Norm! I had read in Ron's sticky on Frame Variations that the barrel shank/thread was 1mm longer (~.039"/.040")...and the corresponding part of the receiver front...that's your area ahead of the takedown lever...

...But where is the 1mm longer area at the rear of the frame of Mauser/Krieghoff frames??? At the very rear of the "ears"??? You're not counting the Mauser "hump", are you???

Yes, that is the 1mm extra in the Mauser frame.
Alf.

Here you go, Rich. The Krieghoff frame is 1mm thicker at the back, the Mauser is the same, except the lower portion has been machined back, leaving the "hump". Regards, Norm
