Poor-man's Custom Recoil Pad
1 Attachment(s)
I wanted to put a recoil pad on a milsurp rifle but didn't want to mess up the butt or pay for an expensive pad. After some experimenting this is what I came up with. The pad is made from a flip-flop ($2.50 a pair at Target) glued to the steel butt plate. It is necessary to grind the outer surface off one side of the material so that the glue will stick. Rough shaping was done with a belt sander, final shaping with a sanding block. The hole for the butt plate screw was cut with a sharpened .45 shell. After three trips to the range it has not come loose and it works just as well as the expensive pads.

NICE, human innovation at it's finest.
What' type of glue did you use? |
Gary,
The stuff I used is called "Power Poxy Super Cement" but I would guess that any acetate based glue would work - anything that says "glues everything." KFS |
Karl, Thats a great idea! I have an old Remington/Browning Auto 5 shotgun that needs one of those...I need to scout around for a brown flip-flop.
Thanks for sharing.. Jerry Burney |
