Bob,
I enhanced your photo a touch. I'm going to go out on a limb here. ST. Could indicate Prison issue. I think this was a Prison guards pistol prior to being transferred to the Landjägerei. SP. could be Spandau Prison(?). 106 is obviously a rack or weapon number. The G.M.H. is up for grabs when it comes to my limited knowledge and references. I did research German prisons of that period and didn't find any that correlated with G.M.H., so I think the SP. is the prison, if it is a prison pistol. If I'm right, it's a scarce marking, and a neat one. Ron |
1914 mauser police pistol
Hi ron
great thanks for your help. That's the first one i have heard that was issued to a prison. I hope you and other will in time find out more about it regards bob |
Bob,
Another clue to the G whether valid or not. Gefängniswärter= Prison Guard. Ron |
I believe the marking is actually SP.GM.H.ST. Known prison markings are either St.A. (Strafanstalt) or St.Gef. (Strafgefängnis). I'm not ready to jump on the prison bandwagen yet. I'll have to think about it some more. Definitely an interesting challenge.
