7.65 Lugers springs
 

According to August Weiss Files Document : 65, DWM used to produce Lugers for the Polce in 7.65mm, because of the restrictions after WWl. in the same document it is stated that the police changed their barrels, recoil - magazine springs, to modify thier Lugers to 9mm.
Is it really necessary to change the springs to shoot 9mm instead of 7.65mm ammo? .

Not the magazine springs, but yes, the recoil of the .30 Luger and 9mm Luger differ enough that appropriate springs should be used for each caliber.

Wolff only shows one "universal" spring set for both calibers...

They do have a "calibration pak" of recoil springs in 36, 38, & 40 pounds...

What would be appropriate for 9MM??? For 7.65mm??? What was the original 9mm & 7.65mm poundage???

I have found that Wolfe Spring kits can be pretty darned "universal". I went that route on an old High Standard and they weren't really even close.

Even the light (36 lb) Wolff spring is too strong for the 7.65. Cutting off 2 coils of a known 9mm spring will get you in the ballpark. I remember a posting about placing brown paper packing tape on the rear of the reciever where the rear toggle would hit it at full recoil is used to determine the severity of recoil. Look for the degree of indentation on a double layer of tape to fine tune. Worked well for me. Traded my 7.65 for a new U.S. Optics Mil GAP spotting scope and feel I got a good deal. YMMV Joe

I do have a couple of original 17 turn 7.65mm recoil springs in stock @$20 eeach + $3 S&H. Tom

All guns are different... so I would start with the heavy spring (40), and work my way down until the gun functioned reliably... If I go to the 36 spring and was still having a problem with reliable operation I would start cutting coils one at a time to tune the gun to the ammo I intended to shoot in it.
