1918 Proof
1 Attachment(s)
Greetings,
Can anyone shed a bit of light on these proofs. I do not own this Luger. I am considering possibly buying it, but these proof marks are throwing me a curve. I have checked all the books I have but to no avail. This a 1918 DWM Luger. Any input will be appreciated. Mike |

The Luger has T S S acceptance stamps and a DWM proof mark. These are common on 1918 DWM Lugers. See Central Powers Pistols page 61 and 441. Jan However the S S and DWM proof are partly washed out and the gun may have been refinished. |
I'm with Jan here - it does look refinished.

Thanks for the input on this question. The proofs look a bit unusual to me. No question about being refinished; it is nickled. I have a good friend who is looking for a shooter, and this one caught my eye.

Mike, the lower parts of the C/S proofs have been buffed away, making them look "unusual", but they are not. This piece is a reblued Luger and should be looked upon as a shooter.
