Inherited '43 Mauser
 

Hi everyone, I inherited a 1943 Mauser P 08 from my father in law, and I know absolutly nothing about it. I tool it to a local gun shop here in town and the gentleman behind the counter told me a little about it, but he did not seem to know very much about it, or I should say to me it seemed he was reluctant to tell me to much about it then proceded to offer me $500 for it. I told him I would have to think about it and left altough I have no intention of returning to that shop ever, I believe he was trying to take advantage of me since I know nothing about it. I tried to get as clear a pictures as I could, my camera gets blury when I get any closer then this. If you could let me know what numbers or marks I could post to help out please let me know. So bottom line if anyone here could give me some more info then the gun dealer did I would be very greatful.

Mauser Banner model is about all I can tell because of the glare in the photos, however it looks orig. and correct. Certainly worth well more than $500 if the numbers match. See if all numbers match, including the grips on the inside. Be careful on disassembly and do not proceed beyond what you feel comfortable with. Good youtube videos out there to show you how and be VERY gentle lifting the left grip panel up. Raise it a hair then rotate it down and forward.
I'd like to see the date, etc in photos without the flash. Try in the shade outside.
Anyway, welcome to the forum, get out the camera again, and stay out of that pawn shop.

from what I can see the shop owner might have offered you a fair price...The grips appear to be reproductions and the sideplate does not appear to belong to the pistol. Depending on what you find out it could be in the shooter catagory of $500-600

What is best when asking questions is to post pictures and to also give a description.

As no lugers by mauser were made in 1943 for the army, it should be either a commericial with no date stamp or a date stamp of xx or 19xx

plus, tell us what is on the toggle and the serial number to include the suffix from the front of the frame.

When you take your photos, don't use a flash. Take them outdoors in indirect light (perhaps in a shaded area).

Use a tripod.

If you take closeups, use the camera setting that usually has a small flower icon on it.

You can load pictures to this site Don't shrink them down to thumbnails. There isn't enough detail available to judge them. Something about 640pixels wide should be good.
