Vopo test pistol?
Dear Experts:
Anyone have an idea of the provenance or authenticity of this Luger on the Simpson Ltd website? http://www.simpsonltd.com/product_in...c44102fa18162c Jeff |
Well, it's not a VoPo, just a P08 with VoPo grips.
But Mauser did use a number of P08 pistols for comparative trials and parts testing during their start-up of the post war production run. We have some documents from the Mauser archives available that clearly show comparison tests between P08 pistols, both DWM and Mauser, and post-war Parabellum pistols. The 'Mauser Werke Oberndorf a Neckar' is the old company name, in 1975 the switch was made to Mauser Jagdwaffen Gmbh for the small arms business. |
I agree with Vlim that it is not a "Vopo Test Pistol". The Volkspolizei lugers were made and reworked in Suhl and not in Oberndorf a/N. It appears to be a boosted luger with bogus markings.

I forwarded the photos to someone who should know. Will report back with his remarks.

Our German expert thinks it is a bogus piece as well :)
