Rear toggle axle
I am so glad I found this wonderful forum. I have a 1915 DWM that I purchased in 1965 from the widow of the man who brought it back. I shot it for some 30 plus years flawlessly. Its in great condition with all matching numbers, but the magazine numbers are off a couple. My question is the rear toggle axle is not numbered and looks like its a brass pin, kinda beat up. When its in battery the toggle is kinda sloppy. Shoots great but am I one piece short of a matching gun? (I stopped shooting it about 10 years ago, kuz I don't want to break anything.

gary,
They didn't number the rear toggle axle until...ummm 1933-34? When Mauser started making them. You can get a new axle from a forum member, Tom Heller, Lugerdoc. FN |
Thanks Tom, who might have them and aprox cost.

The rear toggle pin should NOT be brass... It's made of hardened steel. The finish that looks golden is actually a finish called "Straw"... If it's brass, it isn't safe to shoot...
These pins do wear, and that impacts headspace since the entire toggle train would shift back from the breech. Tom is great to do business with. He's fair and often has exactly what you need! Marc |
