Price Check on a JP Sauer 38H
Guys I need your help. I was offered a chance to by a civilian model of the above pistol. I haven't seen it yet but the guy who has it is an avid collector of military guns but I've seen other guns in his collection and they were all in very good shape. As I said it's a civilian model (civilian proofs) in .32 acp with white grips embossed with the JP Sauer logo. The finish is 90% with a good bore. He has 2 original mags for it and 2 repro mags. He says it has the decocking - cocking lever. I didn't ask about the safety so I don't know about that. I know there are many more variables to take into account but lets assume its a decent example what would be a fair offer to make on it?

Dave, Civilian guns are less desirable than military for the most part. I don't like to hear white grips...Generally speaking these usually equate to replacement franzite types. Not good. His 90% or yours? His might be more like 80-85% Either way...
I guess a lot depends on why you want such a thing. Shooter? Just a 38H example? I would say let him say what he wants and if it's above $300 I would reasses my desire for this type of pistol. If your forced to make an offer I would start at $200 with a lot depending on grip originality. If I am not mistaken they did make an early high polish 38h. These have an almost turn of the century Colt type blue and they usually have light scratches all over as the blue is fragile. White grips kick this in the head though.. Gunbroker is a good place to price these..Take a look there..I didn't see any civilian ones today though. Jerry Burney |
