I Dug Out My Whole Luger Ammunition
 

I have both a brown box and blue hard to find WW1 unopened dwm 9mm ammo>

I took someclosup of the blue and brown boxes of ww1 luger ammo

Nice boxes. They are from the same production lot. Both being produced, packaged on the 6th of August, 1918 in Spandau. They have the ogival (round nose) bullet.

No. 471 is a DWM case designation. So it appears that this is a 50-round box of 7.65mm Luger (Parabellum) DWM ammo with a round-nose bullet, probably pre-WWI

Yes, the label was applied over the cord in order to act like a seal. It is immediately clear that the package has not been opened.

The 471 is indeed 'commercial' ammunition: not procured by the army, but possibly by other branches (police), as well as foreign commercial contracts and normal export and gun shop sales. This box style, together with the serif-style DWM logo on the cases points towards production between 1900 - 1920. I have a similar box, sadly empty, over here.

I think it is completely correct in your test luger display.

WOW You know your ammo. I still can't find any Navy ammo. I guess most went down with the ship till it occured to me, theres many navys out there and they survived!

Navy ammo wouldn't be marked differently would it?

Initially, especially when the navy were the only 9mm users, they had their own boxes/boxlabels. Later I suppose they just got theirs from the common supply lines.
