new luger dont fire

Well fellas I'm new to this forum as well as lugers. I just received my new to me luger in the mail its a commercial grade with mismatched parts its a really nice lookin shooter but unfortunatly it won't fire. I don't even know where to begin to take it down to inspect it, can u see the firing pin with the toggle open?? If some one can point me in the right direction id greatly appreciate it. I spoke with the guy I purchased it from he said he inherited it from his dad n never has fired it but that he would refund all my money or pay to get it fixed so he don't seem to be trying to get one over on me. Please come to my rescue fellas!

Hi ,

You should be able to see the firing pin protruding from a small hole in the middle of the forward face of the breech block.

It's possible that it's broken, but it could also be quite dirty in there. You'll have to disassemble your Luger to check on it.

There are instructions here: http://lugerforum.com/lugerparts.html

Be sure that the gun is unloaded, and that you check the chamber before you disassemble it. A loaded luger can easily fire when it's disassembled.

Your gun may need cleaning and lubrication most. The Luger is a very tight tolerance firearm, and just a little dirt can get in the way...

Are you trying to dry fire it or are you loading live ammunition??? Is there a faint dent in the primer??? Does the weapon make a snap when the trigger is pulled???

Commercial? Is it 7.65mm??? What ammunition are you trying???

bygmyke -

In addition to the suggestions provided by postino and Marc I can only share that I have had a similar experience. It might be a weak striker spring.

One of my Lugers would not fire. It would just "click" and the indentation in the primer was barely visible. Upon taking it apart, I discovered the striker spring was too short. (I think someone had cut a few coils out of it.) I put in a new one, and the pistol functioned flawlessly.

You can probably get a new striker spring from Luger Doc on this Forum.

Or you can order a service pack which includes the striker spring here:

thanks for the responses guys I got it workin easy fix!

Not sure what the part is called but who ever took the gun apart prior to me owning it didn't reassemble it correctly....not sure what the part is called trigger bar????? Its an "S" looking part that hangs from the toggle it wasn't inthe groove of that other part that's "U" shaped behind the magazine well...sorry I'm luger illiterate!! Just new to it but not other firearms....it wouldn't even dry fire prior to that I don't know much about the gun it has mismatched parts with mauser on the toggle and 23 stamped on it, the reciever has 1937 on it....after I put it back together it fired superbly!! It appears to have been refinished at some point in time when I get a chance I will post some pics of it in a different thread, thanks again guys

It's a very common mistake when reassembling a Luger...
Welcome to the forum!
