Button Identification

Can anyone identify the origin of this button.

I apologize for the poor focus, it is a cell phone camera photo...

It is a gilded metal button that is gold in color and about 3/4 inch in diameter... it was in a package deal of antique buttons that my wife purchased, and of course this one caught my eye... She collects antique buttons.

If the photo isn't good enough I will make another attempt at capturing a good photo.

Any idea what kind of clothing or uniform it came from?

John,

No markings on the back? Is it one piece or two? Designed to be sewn on?

Thanks!
Dave

John, This was a popular good luck symbol at the turn of the century. Might not be military.

Don't mean to hijack the thread, but to Jerry's point, and because John mentioned his wife's hobby... My wife quilts, and restores old quilts; so she's always picking up antique fabric. Check out this block from an old quilt top she bought. Hard to say when the quilt top was pieced, but she believes the blue fabric dates around 1900-1910.

Here you can see the former patch of the 45th US Inf Div:

They changed the design in the 1930s.
Can you imagine landing in Italy with this arm patch?
BTW you can still find some buildings in Chicago with swastikas.

The button has no markings on the back and has a wire loop in the center similar to modern U.S. dress uniform military buttons... if that is any help. I will try to get a couple of better photos posted soon. Thanks for the input so far.

It resembles the button at this URL. Scroll to the very bottom of the page.
