1918 Erfurt barrel length
I see that the common 3 3/4, 4 etc.......But where is this measured from. ( Is it the length with threads or the installed length??)
The installed length on my 1918 from the body to tip is 3 3/16". The number on the barrel matches the rest of the gun. Appreciate any help. Mike |
HI, This forum has a Luger Identification Form available at:
http://www.lugerforum.com/images/lugerID.pdf It states: "Barrel Length (Measure from Forward End of Extractor to Muzzle)" This should be 100m on your gun. Marc |
Thanks Marc.......It is close enough.
So I assume that then considered a 4" ,,,,,, |
Yes.. A military caliber 9mm barrel on your 1918 Erfurt should be 4inches.
Marc |
3 and 7/8ths I think; so close that it appears 4 inches.
That said, there is official wiggle room, a gun barrel and / or bore measurement could be off a few hundreths of an inch(damn, where is ViggoG to correct me if I am wrong :( , so guns could be off just a bit. Not enough for most folks to see, but it is measureable. Ed |
Mike,
Is there a c/RC Revisions-Commission stamp on the barrel? --Dwight |
Dwight
The markings on the barrel include the ser# & bore ( at 6o'clock), an eagle with a 1 over it at 1 o'clock and 2 markings ( RC and maybe JB both with crowns over each other at 11 o'clock......
Thanks for the reply........ |
The c/RC marking indicates that the barrel went before the Revisions Commission for permission to accept some non-critical variance in the part. Speculation Could very well have been for an error in overall barrel length.

Thank you for the info..........learn something every day.
Have a good weekend.........Mike |
It has occurred to me that it would be interesting for someone to do a survey of Erfurt barrel lengths in mm (muzzle to rear face of barrel) and correlate the results with the presence or absence of a c/RC stamp on the barrel.
--Dwight |
Drawing length for these barrels was 100mm. That's 3.94". or 3-15/16" for the fraction guys. Like Dwight said, there could be variances.
Another study for you, Dwight? Bob |
