DWM luger with 1939 date
8 Attachment(s)
I inherited a 1939 Luger that is marked with the DWM scrollwork logo. My understanding is that the machinery from the DWM factory was moved to the Mouser factory around 1929. They continued to manufacture Lugars for a few more years using a mix of parts from both factories and mixed markings can be found on lugars dated in the early 1930’s. I would think that by 1939, all the old parts from DWM would have been used up.
The SN is 8685 and all the numbers match, except for the magazine. There are Nazi proof marks stamped on the side of the gun. Can you give me some information on the origin of this lugar? I have attached some photos below |
Yes, but first, welcome to the forum. I would guess that the toggle is NOT marked with the same numbers of the last two of the serial number.
There were no DWM 1939's, so even if the numbers match, it is not correct. The luger (notice the spelling, common mistake) was made by DWM up till about 1934 and then the tooling moved to Mauser and they made new lugers in 1935. Ed |

Thanks for the responses. The pics are of the same gun, just taken at different times. The toggle is stamped 85 (Image 89), as is the side under the toggle (image 93). I'll double check the grip material
( the gun is not here with me) All the stamped parts have the same number (85) Could this be a re manufactured gun? New pics attached |
Hi Joe, We are not imagining this. Picture #6 is of a different gun. Regards, Norm

Note also, the difference in the finish between the toggle train and the receiver. DWM Rust Blue vs. Mauser Salt Blue.

So, the answer is No, it is a made up gun, not a factory or arsenal rework.

My mistake. I accidentally included a picture (with yellow background) that I got off the internet when I was collecting info on Lugers. All the other pics are from the same gun

Joe, The DWM marked center toggle link is from a DWM commerical and may have been originally numbered inside, but more likely the matching number has been added. It woundn't have left the Mauser factory that way in 1939. TH

Thanks for all the input.
After all is said and done, what would you say the original model of this gun would be and the street value |
Hi Joe, Your gun is a mutt, half Mauser, half DWM, and as such is considered a shooter. Around here we figure shooters from $500.00 to $750.00, and I think your gun would be at the high end of that range. Regards, Norm
