Femaru p.37

Folks,

I had shown this pistol on another forum, but here we go again.

After years looking for a decent example down here in South Hemisphere, I finally got my first FEMARU P.37. Here it is.

It is a jhv 41 example, with a very high number for this first contract (in the 47.000 range), and has the Eagle/WaA58 acceptance proofs stamped. It is not in pristine condition, the magazines does not match, but it has the "it was there" look that I really enjoy (it's a personal preference of mine). Now it is time to look for a drop holster.

However, while I was tracking down this pistol, I stumbled on a real treasure - but it will be another story (or topic).

I'm really sorry for the so-so pictures: the winter has arrived here, so outdoor photographing just results in poor quality images...

Hope you enjoy it.

Douglas.

Last ones.
(The last picture was found on e-bay years ago. I'm posting just to illustrate the gun's use by the Luftwaffe. As the image is not mine, I will remove the image if I'm infriging some forum's rule. Just let me know ).

Douglas,

I like these. I've never had one, but would like to find a nice one to shoot.

I took my Astra 300 7,65 on a family outing this weekend up in the mountains. I took several modern guns to shoot, but when I took the Astra out, my daughter's boy friend bet me that I couldn't hit a soda can at 50 yards with it. I hit it 4 out of seven shots, and came real close with the other three. I'm now $5 richer.

Congratulations on the find.

Astra 300

Ron that is great shooting with an astra 300 . With my old eyes might have hit a 5 gal. can.

Ron Thanks for your compliments. I really enjoyed this one.
Now, it is not the little Astra that is a good shooter, you are a marksman indeed.

When I tell people of shooting handguns at long range, and what they are capable of. I get everything from, unbelieving odd looks to flat out "B***Sh**, it can't be done!" I bought an old S&W M&P .38 "Snubby" in the early 80's. I put hundreds if not thousands of rounds through it.

I would set up plastic bottles filled with water, in a row at 25 to 30 yards, and try to shoot and shatter the caps off without knocking the bottle over. I got to the point where I could do it nearly everytime. Later I got my first 1934 Mauser, and learned to do the same with it.

Now I shoot mostly .41 , .44 and .45 handguns at ranges from 200 to 300+ yards on a fairly regular basis. It just takes a good accurate gun and lots of practice. I just turned 60 and my eyes are beginning to fade a bit, but in the right light and conditions I can still hold my own.

I think the p .37 is a nice pistol. Thanks for the photos !! And I agree with Ron ... don't underestimate a handgun especially in the hand of someone who practices with one.
