could someone tell me why no markings?

I found this Luger online and the guy is interested in trading with me but he descriped the Luger and i'm confused.

DWMLuger In Excellent condition. Seems to be about 97%. has Gesichert on the safety and the number 14 on top of the slide. No other proofs, numbers, or markings on the gun

thanks,

SSG

Sean, we'd need to see pictures.

My gut feeling is that it is a commericial and the only markings would be a small crown N

You are expecting a military, which would be marked extensively...

Yes there was number 14 and a crown. The gun is in about 97% looks very clean. I guess what I'm asking " is it worth about 900 in a trade?"

He has ended the auction so I can't get a picture now.

Edward Tinker 06-26-2010 08:57 AM

sorry, this is not enough information for me to tell you to spend $900

Sean,

Without photos, it's hard to say what it is. If there are no markings, it could be re-finish with the proofs and markings removed in the process. If so, it's not worth $900. If the only number is a 14 on the toggle, sounds like a replaced toggle, or the other markings have been removed.

Was it a gunbroker auction? Most sites will let you search completed auctions, thus get the pictures.

Hi Sean, This gun appears to have been heavily buffed and reblued. It is now in the "shooter" category, and is worth between $500.00 and $700.00 depending on the condition of the bore. Regards, Norm

Edward Tinker 06-26-2010 11:25 PM

agreed, its been buffed and reblued, better deals here on the forum. $600-$700 trade value; unless it comes with extra mags or holster

So I can get one that is a good quality "shooter" on here from someone for 500? 'let the offers come rolling. What I'm wanting is one that is trustworthy to use as a carry gun.

Thanks
Shawn

No one said that?

Do a search through the trader / for sale area and look.

But if you are willing to spend $900 then find a nice one for $900.

Do research and find out what kind of gun you want.

As I stated in another of your postings, I would never, ever carry a luger as a carry gun, they aren't relaible enough; not when you can get a gun more reliable for the same price.

ssgdigital 06-27-2010 04:28 PM

No it wouldn't be for an every day carry gun, but I work at a gun shop that requires you to carry a gun. I would like to bring a luger once in a while.

So they aren't considered reliable? I thought they would be reliable. Is there anything that can be done to one to make it reliable like having someone reworking it?

FYI: I carry a Glock.

I wasn't going to buy it outright, he was willing to trade for an H&K that I had.

Edward Tinker 06-27-2010 11:46 PM

All depends on the luger and the magazines. I have an artillery that shoots almost anything through it, and have had other lugers that were jam-omatics.

Just remember, if you use something to defend for your life, the papers will say "Nazi Luger used in Gun store shooting"

Doesn't mean that if I had a nice reliable one that i wouldn't do as you're saying. heck I have a pre-WW2 PP as a carry piece, same thing could be said about me. So, i will go be quiet ;)
