Quick "Value" Needed

I have the opportunity to buy a 1918 DMW Artillery in excellent condition with all matching numbers, including the wooden mag.
The older gentleman is asking $3000. What do y'all think ?

All opinions, suggestions, etc., would be appreciated.

Don

Hi Don, $3,000.00 would be the absolute limit for a 1918 Artillery, in my opinion. It would have to be awfully nice to justify that price. Regards, Norm

I think that pictures of everything is needed; I say that because from experience, folks will say, all matches and under magnification / macro photography; it is obvious that parts have been renumbered etc.

And in 1918 they made a ton of artilleries...

Very expensive, at least $500 too much. David

$3000 is a good price for an '18 with matching mag as long as the condition is there. There were almost four times as many 1917's made.

Would it happen to have adjustable front sight?

George

George,
To be honest with you, I didn't know that any Lugers had adjustable front sights. Besides, I only saw it for a moment at a local gun show. I was on the verge of buying it until I was advised that $3000 was too much to pay for it. (Thanks again Lugerforum members.) The ole' boy wouldn't come down a dime. ;-(

Hi Don, The sights on most Artillery Lugers could be adjusted by small screws (presumably by a unit armorer). This feature started to be phased out towards the end of 1917, and the transition models, where the rear sight is non adjustable, and the front sight is, are of some interest to collectors. Regards, Norm
