Any broomhandle gunsmiths out there?
I recently acquired a bolo BH that was apparently worked over by the Broomcloset or similar Co. It is re-bored to 9 and re-blued. It is also very mismatched with some pitting remaining. Overall a very presentable shooter. It does, however, seem to drag the bolt on something beneath it, presumably the bolt stop block, as the bolt closes. If you close it slowly it remains about 1/2" open, if you let is snap shut under the spring load it usually closes completely. But at the range it does not fully chamber the round because of this drag.
Now here is the kicker: if you push back on the muzzle very slightly (sliding the upper back on the lower) it closes without interference. Where do I start? Thanks for your guidance. dju |
If the bolt closes OK with barrel pushed back, but drags when barrel is in its forward position, I would think the problem was caused by mismatching bolt lock (the internal steel block) and bolt. Both were numbered parts on Bolo Mauser. I met a few Mausers pushing back barrel and releasing it, the barrel does not automatically return to battery, and all of them were caused by either mismatched bolt lock, or fake matching bolt lock. None by weak springs.

I agree with the above. The locking blocks will vary in size and were factory fitted to a partiular gun. I have a lot of these blocks in stock, but would have to have the pistol to fit one to. Tom
