41 BYF Matching Luger
 

Just picked up a Luger, 41 byf matching with a 1938 dated holster. Checking to see what the correct mag and grips for this luger.
Serial No. is 408X P. It came with a No. 37 fxo mag with plactic bottom.

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the forum. The Mauser byf code started in Feb.1941. Serial no. of the 41 ran from 3300n-9950a. So X is right in there. 126,000 made. What inspection stamp is on the right receiver? E/655 or E/135? Could be either wood or plastic grips. About 20% were the black plastic. Mag should be type 4 Army. Blued Extruded Body, Aluminum Concave Center Pinned Body, Stamped fxo, E/37, and a P.08 on the left side of the mag. Some are upside down if you lay the mag on the flat spine. Thanks for the information. My Mauser letter suffix is P not X. I put X in place of my last serial no. It looks like everything is correct.

P block sounds a little early for the plastic bottoms. ??? But there never was a clear cut off line on these. Someone more experienced will be along shortly

Here is an example of a 1941 fxo "p" suffix magazine. Most likely your luger was issued two similar matching magazines. As FNorm stated, black plastic bottoms were issued later in 1941.

It is a fxo with an "upside down" P08. It is the earliest fxo mag I have.

Tom, thanks. It's not a big surprise it's the earliest fxo magazine you own. My records show the last 122 magazine was issued around 1000p. :thumbup:
